The content for all the characters in the For Honor game

  • For Honor's steep progression system directed to Ubisoft having to ban 1,500 players that were AFK farming its in-For Honor game money. Days after, overwhelming pressure from the community forced Ubisoft to address the complaints. Throughout a livestream, match manager Damien Kieken had this to say:"We never had an intention for you to unlock everything in the For Honor Steel Credits game. To begin with, that doesn't truly make any sense. We implemented RPG mechanics in addition to a fighting For Honor game, in a PVP environment, but it is like in an RPG, like in World of Warcraft: you'd never attempt to unlock everything for all of the characters of the entire For Honor game. Same for any MOBA, you are not trying to unlock all the content for all the characters in the For Honor game."

    With this stage, it was clear that the rift was forming between Ubisoft and its community. For Honor's daily concurrent users had fallen to just under 7,000 and also the neighborhood forums and subreddit became filled with complaints about how the For Honor game was headed.

    On March 29, Reddit user jbaayoun rallied the For Honor community and called for a boycott until Ubisoft responded to their list of complaints. "The goal is to receive a response from Ubisoft, something which tells us to maintain our beliefs in the For Honor game," jbaayoun wrote. I hope together we can really make a difference in the For Honor game we love."

    Chief among those requests has been better communicating from the For Honor development group. Just over a month after launching, players had little notion of Ubisoft's plans for the future.

    The boycott was scheduled to start on April 3, however a day after jbaayoun's post burst across the For Honor community, Ubisoft responded. A hotfix was published that radically increased the rates that players could make in-For Honor game money and Ubisoft announced a weekly livestream with its programmers that could hopefully shed light on the community's biggest problems.

    During that first weekly livestream, producer Stéphane Cardin and For Honor game supervisors Damien Kieken and Roman Campos-Oriola laid out a more comprehensive roadmap that included equilibrium changes to For Honor's most overpowered courses, intends to punish ragequitters, and much more For Honor Items. The swift response from Ubisoft was admirable, and the community took note.

    Following the livestream, jbaayoun along with other members of this community called the blackout off. "Though the Steel [the in-For Honor game money ] may not be enough for many and we're still unaware of the details of matchmaking, we've received our goal. We're getting the equilibrium changes we need in the not too distant future, we've got a little solution to our steel problem, they've produced a new form of weekly communicating and they've shown us that they are truly listening and need this match to continue."
